Bartlett Earns CRM Certificate

At the national gathering of United Methodist Camp and Retreat Leaders (October 25-29) at Jumonville Camp and Conference Center in southwestern Pennsylvania, our Executive Director, Todd Bartlett, was presented with his certificate in Camp and Retreat Ministries.

To earn the certificate, one must successfully complete two programs: Immersion, a United Methodist intensive course that covers elements unique to United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries; and Compass Points, a program offered through an ecumenical partnership of Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, United Church of Christ, Presbyterian Camp and Conference Centers, Episcopal Camps and Conference Centers, and United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries. Compass Points includes eight courses: program design, personnel, development, Biblical and theological foundations, non-profit management, mission-vision-values, site administration, and a final project that culminates with a presentation at the national camp and retreat leaders event.

Todd shares, “The combination of Immersion and Compass Points provided me with opportunities to learn more about the elements of camp and retreat ministries, which will help me lead our organization, and support the directors and staff who are engaged in our work of creating sacred spaces of Christian hospitality and learning.” He also adds, “It is nice to be able to look at the various pieces of our ministry in a learning community that is supportive of each participant; we know that if any one of us gets stronger, we are all better for it.”

Todd is the fourth Oregon-Idaho camping leader to go through the certification process in Camp & Retreat Ministry. He joins Kevin Witt (former national director of camp & retreat ministry with Discipleship Ministries), Lisa Jean Hoefner (former executive director of OR-ID camp & retreat ministry), and Jane Petke (director, Suttle Lake Camp). Congratulations, Todd!

Volunteers Still in the Spotlight

As you know, we have been highlighting the names of the volunteers who have supported our mission this year by offering their time, talents, and energy. I have another name to add to the list this week:

Wallowa Lake - Mary Kienzle

Mary did some photography and video work for Wallowa Lake Camp, in anticipation of next year's celebration of 100 years of ministry at the site. I invite you to enjoy the video and photography work that Mary did by clicking on this link.

See you on the adventure ahead,

Rev. Todd Bartlett
Executive Director of Camp and Retreat Ministries

Let's Celebrate!

After three long years of classes, traveling, research, writing papers, and finally the big presentation, Todd has his camp & retreat ministry certificate. Yahoo! Some things in life come easy . . . and others require a long, hard slog through challenges. In this ministry, sometimes the budget cruises easily into the black . . . and other times (like, let's say, in the middle of a pandemic), we struggle to get above the red ink. Your donations help our financial bottom line, and also sustain our spirits as we remember we're not doing this alone. We'd love to have you celebrate Todd's achievement with a financial gift in this honor, or consider a "happy upcoming 100th birthday" gift to Wallowa Lake or Suttle Lake. When you donate to camp & retreat ministry, it gives us even more reason to celebrate!

Please donate today!
